Overview:
Protecting U.
S.
residents and visitors is among our nation’s highest priorities.
As adversaries gain access to sophisticated technologies and materials, the threats grow more dynamic and complex—from cyber and nuclear to chemical and biological weapons of mass effect and other forms of terrorism.
The PNNL national security mission employs our researchers, tools, and technologies to play a key role in advancing the ability to identify and secure nuclear materials, detect weapons of mass effect, manage nonproliferation treaties, secure our nation's borders, and protect critical infrastructures.
PNNL’s scientific discovery and capabilities—rooted in innovative theory, methods, algorithms, and tools—are enabling stronger, more resilient technologies and systems to safeguard national security.
Coupled with decades of radiological and nuclear materials expertise, advanced computing and threat analysis capabilities, and a broad fundamental science base, we are identifying and countering emerging threats that have significant impact at home and around the globe.
We are seeking a people-focused leader passionate about defining and driving the laboratory’s understanding of, and drivers for, emerging threats and disruptive technologies to serve as the Group Leader for Strategic Threat Analysis (STA) Group.
Today, the STA group scans for emerging threats and develops threat mitigation strategies that integrate data, scientific, and technical information into insight and options for decision makers.
The group currently leverages its analysis capability across a variety of domains including law, policy, economics, trade, and technology.
Moving forward, we seek a leader who can build capabilities which provide insight for the US national security community on emerging threats, as well as to help the laboratory to better understand, mitigate and leverage emerging and disruptive technologies.
Because this leader will steward capabilities that join the science and technology understanding of a DOE Office of Science laboratory with our knowledge of the threat landscape to increase our nation’s ability to adapt to the increasingly accelerated pace of technological change, he/she should have experience evaluating the implications of emerging science and technologies.
He or she should understand the analytic process and the benefits and drawbacks of utilizing different analytic tools, techniques, and datasets to solve various challenges.
An ideal leader will bring domain experience in a national security field such as intelligence analysis, strategic trade controls, chemical and biological weapons security, or nuclear and radiological weapons security.
The leader should be able to call on professional relationships inside and outside government to help craft and implement growth strategies.
The leader should also possess the interpersonal skills and experience to build an effective team that is empowered to execute the strategy.
The ideal leader will be well-versed in crafting a strategy that leads to new security-informed research and development at PNNL, ultimately driving S&T into the mission.
