Overview: The Campus Development Division delivers mission ready projects from concept inception through readiness and beneficial use in support of the forward looking PNNL Campus Strategy, emerging research needs, and the ongoing investments in modernizing and maintaining the Laboratory’s existing facilities, utilities, and infrastructure.
Campus Development's project lifecycles begin in Facility Strategic Planning as part of the campus wide Facilities and Infrastructure (F&I) Planning Process and are executed by our Project Management and Engineering staff with support from the Design & Drafting and Construction Management staff.
The Engineering and Project management resources concurrently support projects received from the Research directorates (program sponsored and Laboratory Directed Research and Development [LDRD]) and from the Facilities and Operations (F&O) Core Teams.

Click Here For Rockstar Rewards Responsibilities: Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is looking for a mid-level Facility Design Electrical Engineer (Level 3) to be part of the Campus Design, Engineering, and CAD group.
Help design facilities to meet the future needs of our research partners that are developing new solution for some of the world’s greatest science and technology challenges.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing electrical engineering expertise for engineering studies, preliminary, conceptual and detailed facility design, calculations, troubleshooting, preparation of contract documents including drawings and specifications, and field inspections for all PNNL facilities.
This position applies engineering knowledge and methods for the accomplishment of electrical engineering work assigned to the facility engineering department, which will also include research and development support.
Lead multi-disciplinary project design teams on simple and highly complex projects.
Lead project electrical design engineering efforts and apply electrical engineering expertise to the design.
Coordinate within the engineering group and other groups independently in developing the overall system design in a team environment.
Mentor and be a technical resource for early career engineers/designers and provide oversight to outside consultants to meet project design schedules.
Support the procurement of equipment by developing procurement packages, reviewing quotations, providing technical evaluations, reviewing vendor submittals, and providing resolution of technical issues during the procurement of equipment.
Review and disposition of engineering change notices, non-conformance reports, and condition reports.
Prioritize and manage heavy workload to ensure high quality and productivity.
Support operations, maintenance, and commissioning of the PNNL Facilities.
Interface with subcontractors, vendors, and project support groups.
Communicate effectively and timely to stakeholders and engineering team.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: BS/BA and 5+ years of relevant work experience -OR- MS/MA and 3+ years of relevant work experience Preferred Qualifications: PE Preferred 3+ years of experience in a multi-discipline engineering setting (A/E Firm) 3+ years of experience in electrical design of buildings (Lighting/Power/Systems) Expertise in NFPA 70 Experience in NFPA 70E Experience in lighting design and lighting controls Experience in NFPA 72 fire alarm control system design LEED or equivalent DOE High Performance Sustainable Building Standard experience Experience leading technically complex activities and projects Experience with institutional research laboratory layout and design Experience with direct digital Facility Management Control System design (HVAC system control) Excellent written and verbal communication skills AutoCAD or REVIT design and drafting skills, MS Office Software skills Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment: Not Applicable Additional Information: Due to business needs and client space, US Citizenship is required.
