The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for a Grounds Maintenance Worker 1.
This is a permanent full-time state position located at the Rees Training Center in Hermiston, Oregon.
This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ (AFSCME) union.
NOTE: This recruitment announcement will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

What You Will be Doing Employee maintains roads and grounds, such duties consist of turf management for mowing of lawns, fields and training areas; irrigation activities; fertilization and pesticide functions; flower bed maintenance, pruning activities, and roadway maintenance using tractors, mowers, blowers, weed eaters, brush cutters, chain saws, garden tools, etc.
Working Conditions Subject to loud noise and unsanitary work conditions several times monthly.
Regularly exposed to dust and blowing sand.
Works in inclement weather.
Must be able to lift 70 lbs.
and carry equipment such as weed eaters, backpack sprayers and blowers for sustained periods.
Must be able to operate mowers and weed eaters on uneven terrain and hillsides.
Positions require the willingness to work with and around restricted-use pesticides.
Operates motor vehicles, tractors, mowers, man lifts, backhoes and forklifts.
What You Need to Qualify An associate degree in landscape technology, horticulture, turf management or closely related field -AND- six (6) months of landscape experience.
***OR*** Two (2) years of landscape experience.
Additional Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid driver license and acceptable driving record.
Desired Skills/Experience Experience with tools and machinery required in landscaping.
Conditions of Employment Must have and maintain a favorable Criminal background History check and be able to obtain and maintain a favorable Department of Defense National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Suitability Determination (T1).
Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment, the circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered.
Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace in accordance with OMD Drug/Alcohol CPM’s, Policies, and the Statewide Drug Free Workplace Policy 50-000-01.

Work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.
