JOB Accountant II Opening Date: November 1, 2023 Salary Range: $5,710-$6,947/month Closing Date: Open Until Filled; First Review Date: November 27, 2023 The City of Walla Walla offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, vision, and dental health insurance.

NATURE OF POSITION Prepare, process, and reconcile assigned portions of the financial reporting system.
Assist with report preparation and accounting support activities for departments; interpret regulations, statutes, policies, and agreements for planning and processing of financial transactions of assigned functions in compliance with established policies and procedures.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field and four years related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience in municipal accounting; bilingual in Spanish.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Employees of the City of Walla Walla are expected to model and foster the City's core values: Service – Integrity – Collaboration – Equity – Leadership – Community Reconcile, prepare, and maintain assigned portions of the financial reporting systems, including but not limited to Cash flows, fixed assets, grant receivables, general ledger, and permitting.
Enter data into systems, prepare reports, verify the accuracy, process transactions, and reconcile journals to appropriate sources such as accounts, general ledgers, systems, registers, and reports.
Review various source documents and financial records for accuracy; ensure processes adhere to established policies, procedures, and regulations.
Verify and compute changes to financial transactions.
Perform research, resolve issues, and balance assigned responsibilities (e.
g.
, systems, accounts, registers, etc.
); register discrepancies and errors; research and adjust irregularities to ensure reconciliation of general ledger, register, and/or accounts.
Serve as the subject matter expert for assigned areas of responsibility.
Complete assigned portions of the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) with proficiency.
Independently administer sound judgment regarding daily cash management operations requiring attention to detail such as banking services, electronic payment services, online reporting, and cash needs forecasting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Demonstrate competency with practical applications of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and State Budgeting Accounting and Reporting System (BARS) concerning accounting and processing financial transactions.
Research and interpret applicable federal, state, City, and departmental policies, procedures, regulations, agreements, and laws.
Comprehend various internal and external financial systems.
Utilize computerized financial systems to compute, verify, compile, and analyze financial information for data processing and analysis.
Prepare effective oral and written communications.
Administer cash management practices such as banking services, electronic payment services, online reporting, and cash needs forecasting.
Demonstrate competency with financial records and managing accounting codes.
Accurately process mathematical calculations.
Use spreadsheets, word processors, and financial software.
Explain policies and procedures regarding processing and administration, within the assigned area(s), to both internal and external customers/audiences.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Operate office equipment, including computers, but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, ERP System and other software packages, telephones, copiers, and calculators.
