The Staff Accountant will provide daily accounting support for specified assets within a growing portfolio of commercial, residential, and industrial entities.
This position encompasses managing cash position, reconciling bank accounts, reviewing accounts payable batches, margin analysis and the completion of comprehensive monthly financial statements.
The position works closely with the Accounting Manager, providing accounting and general business support.
Clear communication and attention to detail are important aspects of this position.
*RESPONSIBILITIES* * Perform month end closing tasks including recording journal entries, calculating accruals, performing variance analyses, and reconciling GL accounts.
* Responsible for preparation and analysis of financial statements and internal reports for assigned entities in accordance with closing calendar (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Equity Summary and Cash Flow Statement).
* Manages and maintains timely and accurate cash account records at all times.
Includes monthly bank reconciliations and forecasting future cash needs as necessary to ensure entities are adequately funded to meet obligations.
* Responsible for fixed asset accounting for assigned entities, including capital vs.
expense, WIP tracking, recommending useful lives and depreciation schedules for asset additions.
* Oversees the Accounts Payable process by reviewing batches for proper approval, coding, and reasonableness prior to payment processing.
Adherence to internal controls and protocols.
* Process Account Receivable and bill back for assigned entities.
* Prepares annual Federal Tax Return supporting documentation for all assigned entities.
* Assists with preparation of the annual budget for the entities, as needed.
* Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed.
* Completes responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
* Establish and maintain effective communication and coordination with team members, coworkers, and management.
*REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & ABILITIES* * Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred.
* 3+ years experience in all phases of accounting from transaction level through completion of financial statements.
* Highly proficient in Microsoft Office products – specifically Excel, Word and Outlook .
* Yardi Voyager software experience is highly desired.
* Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
* Detail-oriented and well organized.
Ability to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and to consistently meet deadlines.
* Ability to review, analyze and interpret financial information accurately for the purpose of preparing financial reports.
* Ability to work independently and use good judgment to know when to ask for help and/or guidance.
* Ability to interact professionally with employees, tenants, owners, customers, and vendors.
* Strong written and verbal skills including ability to deliver well written reports and business correspondence.
Ability to present numerical data effectively.
* Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens well and gets clarification when necessary.
* Changes approach or method to best fit the situation or circumstances; able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
* Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Takes responsibility for own actions and in completion of tasks.
