Professional (+) (Fixed Term) Time Type: Full time Position Term: 12 Month Position Details: Summary of Duties: The TRIO STEM Advisor is responsible for providing personal coaching and advising support to student participants; will be responsible for academic plans, career services, financial aid, registration, student activities, and other forms of student services related to TRIO participants who are first-generation, limited-income students and individuals with disabilities.
The STEM Advisor will help students navigate through their college experience successfully by assessing students' academic skills; will determine best possible approach for academic improvement and develop student success plans; will provide resources available on campus and provide referrals when necessary.
Duties and responsibilities also include planning and attending day or overnight trips related to graduate school, conferences, leadership programs and cultural enrichment.
This includes outreach and retention efforts, development of TRIO programming that supports underrepresented populations, serves on committees, and participates in ongoing professional development.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: analyzing student academic plans and transcripts, using data to inform advising and coaching practices of TRIO students, developing and participating in student success programming; functioning as a liaison with university faculty, supervisors, and internal and external constituents; monitoring and evaluating student services and programming effectiveness, and suggesting changes required for improvement.
Essential Functions: 50% Academic Advising/Personal Coaching 30% Retention/Programming 10% Administration 5% Recruitment 5% Other Required Qualifications: Positions require a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience.
A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience.
Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Demonstrated excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
Demonstrated computer software skills, including the ability to use office software Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks effectively Demonstrated public speaking and experience conducting presentations Professional or personal experience working with a diverse group of students and their families such as first- generation students, low-income students, disabled students, and/or culturally diverse student populations.
Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in related field Bilingual: fluent oral and written communication skills in a language other than English.
Previous work experience at an institution of higher education.
Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and leadership, including the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
Experience working with and maintaining student records Experience with Washington State University business policies and procedures and/or federal grant regulations, such as a TRIO program, the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), High School Equivalency Program (HEP), GEAR Up or similar grant programs.

Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
