NATURE OF POSITIONDirect the daily activities of Fleet Maintenance operations to ensure Agency goals and strategies are realized.
Plan, direct, and coordinate staff activities to maintain Agency vehicles and equipment in a state of good repair.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Provide leadership and direction to departmental staff to include coordinating work among the department; coordinate work with external agencies; prioritize and assign work; conducting performance evaluations; ensure that employees follow policies and procedures; and make hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions and recommendations.
Plan, organize, and direct the maintenance and repair of all buses, vans, automobiles, vanpools, service vehicles, and related equipment.
Oversee vehicle and equipment procurements, compliance with provisions of equipment warranties.
Develop, monitor, and manage the budget items related to department; develop and review cost estimates for maintenance and repair projects and activities; research and analyze data for cost effective improvements.
Executes contingency plans and adapts operations for unexpected weather conditions, equipment failures, and emergency situations.
Responds to facility and emergency situations on a 24-hour/7 day a week basis.
Ensure that Agency standards of safety and security are met by reviewing fleet operations and equipment for adherence to Agency policies and local, State and Federal rules and regulations.
Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and programs to ensure a high quality of maintenance and repair of Agency vehicles, and equipment.
Track and report information by reviewing and/or analyzing daily workflow, daily running repairs, daily road calls, preventative maintenance inspections, and employee attendance.
Address labor relations issues by following established Agency guidelines, hearing grievance responses, and determining corrective action; may represent the department’s interest in collective bargaining and arbitration.
Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer complaints.
Negotiate, authorize, and monitor fulfillment of contracts with equipment and/or materials suppliers.
Supervise, motivate, and provide direction to assigned staff; evaluate work performance for acceptability and conformance with department standards; work with employees to correct performance deficiencies.
Oversee and monitor the vehicle maintenance management system and other information technology required in the daily operation.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and supervise safe work practices; ensure conformance to hazardous material and hazardous waste regulations.
Prepare a variety of reports, documents, and correspondence.
Work with and maintain confidential information.
Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance.
Other duties as assigned.
