Lightning Bolt Cattle Company (LBCC) has an excellent opportunity for a Manager of Ranching Operations.
LBCC is a diversified cattle company with a 3,000 head cow herd (consisting of 6 summer and 2 winter ranches) located throughout Northeast Oregon & the Columbia Basin (OR) region.
The Manager of Ranching Operations will work closely with the General Manager of Operations and Ranch Managers (Unit) to ensure that our organization executes effectively in all phases of cow calf and yearling operations.
This consists of hands-on oversight of all daily cow/calf/yearling ranching activities including employee work schedules, pasture management, forage production, animal feeding, animal processing, animal health, herd genetics, budgeting, performance monitoring, record keeping, facility and equipment maintenance.
You will also help oversee the natural cattle programs and ensure all standards and audit certifications are being met.
The successful candidate will help analyze and oversee capital projects, new ranching opportunities, leases, and partnerships.
This is a great opportunity to work with consulting veterinarians, nutritionists, and other business partners to maximize cattle health, performance, and profitability.
Essential Duties: ● Plan and execute forage management plan at each operation with support of on-site unit managers that is focused on long term resource management and health.
● Maintain effective communication with GM and unit managers on herd inventory management.
● Ensure all aspects of cattle care align with company expectations and protocols, prioritizing animal health, animal welfare and nutrition.
● Safeguard the safety and well-being of cattle by ensuring appropriate pastures, circles and allotments are managed to consistently meet or exceed requirements of all grazing agreements.
● Provide input and oversight in the annual budgeting process and provide feedback when deviations to the plan occur.
● Provide input and help ensure all lease agreements are being followed.
● Support employees by ensuring proper compensation, benefits, and a safe work environment by conducting regular evaluations and annual performance reviews with the assistance of the GM.
● Communicate with each unit manager to provide support and strategic planning for their upcoming needs.
● Participate in weekly operation calls with GM, owners, upper management, and unit managers reporting inventories, herd health, forage conditions, upcoming activities, and additional resource requirements.
● Ensure all facilities and rolling stock are maintained to company standards.
● Possess the ability and willingness to be hands-on, assisting with fencing, facilities, cattle care & movements as needed.
Skills & Qualifications: ● Demonstrate a strong work ethic with ability to perform or oversee any ranch activities and willing to have a flexible schedule that could include weekends.
● Earn the trust and respect of your team through your knowledge, dedication, and humility.
● Exhibit strong horsemanship and cattle handling experience.
● Possess excellent communication, organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
● The ability to work comfortably with computers, communicate by email, learn cattle management software programs, and excel experience is beneficial.
● Experience with preparing and working with budgets.
● Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse workforce, accommodating different skills, experiences, and educational background.

● Bilingual English/Spanish would be ideal, but not necessary.
Annual Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000 The Manager of Ranching Operations is a full-time, year-round, salary position.
Starting salary is commensurate with skills and experience.
