The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) is responsible for daily operational oversight, planning, and program development for the DEIB departments, including the Multicultural Center International Student, Study Abroad and National Student Exchange; and Campus Resource Advocacy programs and services.
This includes developing programs and services to full potential and professional development for student leaders, campus support leaders, and partners.
The director coordinates awareness around stigma and unconscious bias toward students from historically minority backgrounds and supports the facilitation of LGBTQ visibility.
Duties include promoting and enhancing understanding, acceptance and awareness regarding LGBTQ+ issues in order to facilitate a culture of belonging among students.
The Director serves as the Primary Designated School Official for the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS); advises students on F-1 visa matters, immigration regulations, and academic, personal, financial, social, and cross-cultural concerns; and implements on-campus international programs; and collaborates and establishes exchange programs.
The incumbent is required to keep up-to-date with complex federal, state, local, and University regulations that impact international students and their dependents.
The position supports Eastern Oregon University’s effort toward building and sustaining a diverse, inclusive, and culturally vibrant campus that fosters a multicultural learning environment and a sense of belonging for students as indicated in the University’s Strategic Plan to “support intercultural competency, inclusiveness, and diversity.

Responsibilities Managing a centralized advising office for all EOU students interested in study abroad and NSE and counseling international students on immigration and academic advising requirements.
Maintaining and monitoring admission application materials, documents and information of international students for the university in the Banner information system.
Oversee the implementation of all support services within the Multicultural Center, Campus Resource Advocate, International Student Program, National Student Exchange and Study Abroad.
The DEIB Director manages student-centered work focused on the persistence, retention and development of students from historically marginalized groups.
Develop and implement student programs offerings that address the gaps and barriers faced by historically marginalized students in college including student learning outcomes that focus on personal and educational achievement indicators, awareness of cultural differences, cultural commonalities, privilege and identity, self-assessment of cultural awareness of oppression, discrimination, bias and stereotypes that impact a sense of belonging for students.
Promote academic success of historically marginalized and international students with resources and support that includes navigating differences in systems and structures, policies and processes that create barriers for student success and student-centered multicultural awareness programs, activities and events.
Be the Primary Designated Officer for EOU regarding matters related to student immigration and naturalization issues.
Additionally, the director is the main program adviser for all international students, and EOU students in Study Abroad and National Student Exchange programs.
The director develops and provides support services for international students on immigration, cultural transition, secondary academic advising requirements specific to F-1, J-1, and other visa regulations while in the US.
Incorporate student learning and development that enhances the educational experience for LGBTQ+ students and groups.
Develop and maintain the advocacy program that focuses on creating a campus free from harassment and violence towards LGBTQ+ and other historically marginalized groups.
Serve as a trainer for the EOU Safe Zone program and provide secondary support to address the needs and gaps faced by these students.
Managing current EOU partnerships as a liaison for Campus Compact; serve as a, trainer, and program manager for Diversity Scholarship Review Team, International & COFA Scholarship committee, and Multicultural Student programs and services.
Record keeping and reporting that is required for EOU to remain in compliance with immigration regulations.
In collaboration with the AVP for DEIB, the director provides leadership, strategic direction and oversight for the development and implementation of programs, activities and support services under the following DEIB offices – Multicultural Center Programs & Services, Native American Program, International Program, National Student Exchange and Study Abroad and Campus Resource Advocacy program.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in social science, humanities, education, counseling or other relevant fields from a college or university accredited by a U.
S.
Department of Education and/or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
Three (3) years of demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity-based work, cross-cultural awareness, identity exploration, and an understanding of the international student experience.
Three (3) years of demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to, and respect for the validity of the academic and social development needs of students from historically marginalized populations; knowledge of issues of social justice and diversity as a fundamental aspect of student success.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Analyze problems and implement complex and creative solutions.
Must know how culture affects verbal and non-verbal communication.
Ability to articulate and convey information to a wide range of audiences.
Three (3) years of knowledge and understanding of student development theory, retention and programming needs of underrepresented students as well as proven leadership experience and effectiveness in advocating for underrepresented populations.
Three (3) years of knowledge about diversity, equity, inclusion and identity development and the intersections of various aspects of diversity (i.
e.
, race and class, race and gender, race and sexual orientation) on identity development and the acculturation process.
Must know how various groups experience the campus and what institutional and societal barriers limit their access and their success.
Must be able to make culturally appropriate interventions to seek to optimize learning experiences for students.
One (1) year of experience with instructing students in formal and informal settings.
Ability to counsel students, communicate the principles of leadership and exercise ethical decision-making.
Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check.
Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.
