Job Description Summary Food safety professional focused on foreign material (FM) analysis and mitigation, works with FM lab personnel and plants to determine root cause and corrective actions for FM incidents, and identifies new FM technology, works with engineering to determine installation and operational validation of FM technology.
Partners with Quality, Engineering, and other cross-functional departments to assess and manage FM findings across production facilities.
Seeks out new technologies and works with plants to implement and standardize current FM detection technologies.
Job Description Partners with cross-functional groups on FM task forces aimed at determining best practices in FM detection and prevention.
Succession management - responsible for training lab personnel on Foreign Material analysis and processes.
Determines validation requirements for x-rays, metal detectors, and partners with engineering on the installation and operational validation of this equipment.
Responsible for managing and updating the FM corporate procedures.
Identifies new FM detection and reduction technology and partners with engineering to implement it in the plant.
Partners with plants on root cause analysis and corrective actions for FM incidents.
Develops training for the plants to conduct their own root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Develops and implements verification requirements for metal detectors and x-rays; determines requirements for Critical Control Points (CCPs).
Supports additional areas of food safety as required, branches out to develop a general understanding of toxicology, microbiology, auditing, regulatory affairs, and supplier compliance.
Develops relationships and partners cross-functionally with Legal, Engineering, Quality, Product Development, and other departments as-needed.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications Education/ Certifications: (Required & Preferred) Minimum of bachelor’s degree in food science, toxicology, biology, chemistry, or another scientific discipline.
Skills and Experience: A minimum of five years of lab experience supporting food production.
Experience conducting FM analysis and toxicological, chemical, or biological research, preferably in the food or consumer products industry.
HACCP and/or PCQI trained or willing to become trained.
The candidate should have a strong interest in problem-solving and scientific research in an industry-setting, with a high-level of integrity and desire to mentor others.
Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
Physical Environment/Demands: Some travel may be required (10-20% of time) Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables.
Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range posted based on various factors, including, but not limited to, job duties, experience and expertise.
A candidate’s work location could also impact the actual compensation being outside of the range to reflect local cost of labor.
A reasonable annual estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $95,890.
