The Department of Corrections is seeking highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Advanced Care Practitioner on call.
This position maybe filled with either a Physician Assistant- Certified or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner.
Under the supervision of the Facility Medlcal Director, this position contributes to the agency's mission to improve public safety by delivering quality health care to the offender patient population in a timely and professional manner, promote a health lifestyle, and provide patient health care education.
This includes assessing, diagnosing, and treating the multitude of medical issues encountered.
This position monitors, manages, coordinates, and delivers health care; and, counsels, consults, teaches, advises, and provides health care informatlon to the patient that improves the quality and continuity of health services.
Supervises and monitors all levels of health care services delivered to the offender population and assists Health Care Managers and the Facility Medical Director in monitoring expenditures, planning, and organizing health care services, facilities, and other programs.

"This recruitment could be used to fill multiple permanent or non-permanent positions" Duties Under the supervision of a qualified physician, provide primary routine, urgent, and emergent medical care, including diagnostic, therapeutic, preventative and health maintenance services.
Diagnose health related problems and determine outcome of acute and chronic illness.
Ensure continuity of care.
Deliver health care, defining time frames and pathways for delivery of services, and determining priorities and sequences of care to be provided.
Analyze and evaluate the structure, process, and timeframes for service delivery; the expected effects of treatment or intervention; the outcomes to be achieved; revision of the plan of care to prevent complications; and intervene to address new or emerging problems or to improve care and service delivery.
Implement plan of care by providing direct patient care; directing others about the urgency, timeframes, and methods to deliver health care on and off-site; determining when need for care or services become more urgent, need clarification, or another type of level of intervention; and taking action as necessary to provide orders and accomplish prescribed interventions in a timely and clinically responsive manner.
Complete screening/intake assessments and performs physical examination.
Initiate PULHES coding and other health classification requirements.
Perform minor surgical procedures and suture of simple lacerations.
Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic laboratory tests and provide preliminary reads of X-rays.
Prescribe medications including controlled substances as indicated.
Provide medical and technical assistance to other health care personnel as required.
Refer complicated and complex cases to staff physicians and outside medical consultants and facilities when necessary.
When assigned, provide primary care services at the SMU, MSU, IPU and Living Units.
Admit and care for infirmary patients when needed.
Participate in rotational Health Care Provider in response to after-hour emergencies including weekends, holidays and during daily, weekend, and holiday rounds in the infirmary when physicians are not available.
Practice in accordance with DOC Policy and Offender Health Plan.
Participates in formal clinical oversight according to facility and DOC Health Services Clinical Oversight Structure.
Provide effective communication and documentation.
Delegate and assign patient responsibility through appropriate communication to the nurses and nursing personnel.
Evaluate and consider the needs, condition, and stability of the patient, potential harm, complexity of task, and predictability of outcome to determine appropriate assignment.
Teach, instruct, monitor, supervise, and evaluate the Implementation of patient care tasks.
Collaborate with management to facilitate implementation for processes that affect nursing staff, custody, support staff, and other departments that impact patient care.
Provide medical health and safety advice with regards to offenders to custody staff when necessary.
Provide medical input to respond to routine and emergency grievances.
Respond to offender kites.
Actively participate In Continuous Quality Improvement Process (CQIP) program and Care Review Committee (CRC) teleconferences.
Legibly document subjective and objective clinical findings, as well as the actions taken to deliver all aspects of health care in the health record, computerized database and on other DOC approved forms.
All documentation will be in accordance with the Health Care Guidelines.
Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care including chart documentation using appropriate format of all patient requests for medical attention, objective data collected, treatment administered, and patient education provided.
Assist in writing, evaluating, and revising nursing care plans and Interdisciplinary treatment plans, and complete other entries to support the problem-oriented health care record.
Communicate and assist in the coordination of pertinent information to health care providers for patients scheduled for community-based care.
Protect the confidentiality of health records as mandated by law, professional standards, DOC-Policy Directives, facility Operational Memorandums, and Health Cara Unit procedures.
Treat all health records or health information as confidential and privileged.
Complete unusual Incident reports as directed, collect data, investigate, and complete reports.

Miscellaneous / Administrative Requirements Consult with custody and other staff concerning health and safety of offenders.
Participates in Health Services Quality Improvement activities.
Participates in regular drills, subject to emergency assignments in the event of an Inmate disturbance, civil disturbance, or natural disaster.
Assist with the Trauma/Emergency Medical Team.
Attend In-service education programs, mandatory training, and staff meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required Qualifications Graduation from a Physician's Assistant Training program approved by the Washington State Board of Medical Examiners AND Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistant will be required.
Note (1): Applicants must include evidence of completion of the above training program and certification at time of application.
Note (2): Individuals appointed after certification must be sponsored by a licensed physician representing the state of Washington and be registered or granted interim approval as a Physician Assistant by the Washington State Board of Medical Examiners prior to performing duties as a Physician Assistant.
Permanent appointment will be contingent upon registration by the Washington State Board of Medical Examiners within 90 days following appointment.
OR Must possess a valid Washington State license to practice as a Registered Nurse, AND, current certification from an approved national certification program (American Nurses Association) verifying completion of an advanced formal education program in the area of specialty, AND, possession of a current designation as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of Washington.
OR Recent graduates of the formal education program who are awaiting the results of the licensing examination must have a Washington State issued temporary permit.
Failure to obtain a license shall result in immediate termination from the position by the appointing authority.
AND Must hold unrestricted license to practice as a midlevel practitioner and prescribe scheduled drugs.
Must have initial and continuous unblemished/unrestricted licensure in the State of Washington as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant-Certified.
